The idea is to remove the internal combustion engine and replace it with an electric motor. When the engine is gone, all its connecting components such as gas tank, fuel lines, radiator, fuel pump, exhaust pipe etc are redundant therefore to be removed as well. To generate torque, the electric motor is bolted to the existing transmission unit. Usually, an electric car conversion kit will come with a metal joining plate and shaft coupler.
To supply power to the motor, a series of deep cycle batteries are used. To save cost, you can use recycled or reused batteries from golf carts. An electric vehicle will require at least 10 to 15 units of batteries. On a full charge, the EV is capable of covering approximately 100 miles. The full extent of the mileage will depend on the power of the motor, weight of the donor car, charging state of the batteries and the driving condition.
